Harvesting bone marrow is now fast and easy with the power-driven Bio-MAC® Bone Marrow Aspiration Cannula from Biologic Therapies.

Available in 25mm, 45mm, 60mm, 80mm and 105mm lengths, the Bio-MAC’s varying lengths allow for bone marrow draws throughout the anatomy. In addition to the iliac crest, the proximal tibia, proximal humerus and calcaneus are now viable sites for easy bone marrow aspiration.

The Bio-MAC Bone Marrow Aspiration Cannula provides a safe, fast and efficient means of bone marrow harvest for providers of point-of-care Regenerative Cell Therapy. This therapy has been proven to be a highly effective treatment for bone, muscle, tendon, ligament and cartilage injuries. Plus, bone marrow is an excellent source for the cells and growth factors that are responsible for the healing and tissue regeneration process.

The Bio-MAC’s cannula contains eight large, smooth, bevel-edged fenestrations, which allow for gentle bone marrow aspiration. The Bio-MAC’s unique design also incorporates a proprietary plunger component that when inserted down the cannula creates a void (frac) where bone marrow pools. Together, the fenestrations and plunger-created void provide an approximately 120% greater draw area resulting in higher aspiration efficiency and an easier draw when compared to other.


The Magellan® technology provides an automated dual spin processing system that can deliver (PRP) Platelet Rich Plasma as well as (PPP) Platelet Poor Plasma

Platelets release various growth factors:

  • PDGF- Platelet Derived Growth Factor (Cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production)
  • TGF-B (Growth and neogenesis of epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells, promotion of wound healing)
  • VEGF (Growth and generation of vascular endothelial cells)
  • FGF-Fibroblast Growth Factor (Tissue repair, cell growth, collagen production, hyaluronic acid production)
  • EGF-Epithelial Growth Factor (Promotion of epithelial cell growth, angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing)

The Magellan® Platelet Separator is unique in its ability to customize the PRP product. The system can be programmed to deliver a volume of 3-10ml for each processing cycle. This allows you to customize the PRP concentration from each processing cycle. This also allows you to customize the concentration per ml within PRP. Magellan is approved for three processing cycles per disposable, allowing for maximum of 30 ml of product

60ml of blood processed to 6mL delivers a platelet concentration of 7.2 times baseline (see customization graph above). It is important to determine the volume needed for each application and then process the appropriate volume of blood to keep the platelet concentration at therapeutic levels.


The Magellan System is a fully automated, dual spin, self-balancing, microprocessor driven system with intelligent detection capabilities utilizing optic sensors in addition to centrifugal force and cell density for cell separation. This system was designed to be gentle on the cells and flow cytometry testing showed 97% of platelets are not activated during processing. In addition, the Magellan does not depend upon user accuracy for product quality and it is not a hematocrit dependent system. Together, these benefits allow for a consistent and reproducible product. 

The Magellan System is a closed system with physical barriers. Once the starting volume is connected to the disposable, the user only has to enter the desired final volume and press the start button. The system does the rest. At the end of the cycle, the user only has to disconnect the 10 mL syringe containing PRP or MAR0 product and transfer to the sterile field. This ease of use increases safety, as well as, product consistency

The Magellan System:

Allows you to choose from 3 to 10 mL of final product volume from between 30 and 60 mL of starting volume per spin. It is FDA approved for up to three separate spins per disposable per patient. So, there are many options for final volume and concentration levels giving the ability to customize the final product per patient and procedure. In addition, the final volume is drawn off automatically while the system is still spinning at 1,000 RPMs which allows the total final volume to come from the most concentrated portion of the buffy coat and plasma. Multiple Beneficial Applications for One Kit Cost: 1) Our MARO products can be applied with graft material to an orthopedic site. 2) PRP & PPP can be processed from whole blood during the same procedure for no additional cost.  We are seeing PRP being utilized for soft tissue healing and infection prevention and PPP for hemostasis upon closure. In the office setting, this gives you the option to produce the volume and platelet concentration desired to treat multiple sites in the same visit for no additional cost. For example, cBMA injections for OA of both knees and PRP for Tennis Elbow.
